Are you planning to start your fabric printing business for the first time? Brilliant decision! Nowadays, digital printing technologies are quickly evolving in the industry. More and more businesses and companies are choosing customized products for branding purposes. Fabric painting can revolutionize your business!
So, when starting a fabric printing business, it is important to have some basic knowledge of fabric printing. Let have a detailed look—
In simple words, fabric printing is a process of applying colour to the fabric. It may be a clothing item printed for advertising your business, or some internal design for your offices with the company logo. Fabric printing incorporates all transference of colour design onto fabric – and can be much more creative than a logo printed onto a t-shirt.
To print on the fabrics, there are specialized inks available in the market. The first thing a business needs to choose the type of printing that best suits their products and needs!
A successful fabric printing depends on the quantity of fabric, the fabric you are using, the quality of finish you are looking for and, most importantly, the level of detail in the design.
There are 5 types of printing methods—
Direct to Garment (DTG): It takes the designs and directly prints them onto the fabric using a specialized inkjet printer and waterbased ink. This is perfect for complex designs with lots of colours and intricate details. But the fabric needs to be pre-treated to make sure the colour applied gets absorbed cleanly and quickly. Further, steam and heat are used to fix the design using another machine. It is an effective approach to produce low-priced items.
Sublimation Printing: In this approach, the design is first printed onto a specialised paper and then transferred onto the desired fabric with proper heat. It gives much better colours and distinct design, and works well on synthetic fabrics.
Screen Printing: Flat bed and Rotary are two different types of screen printing. Since only one colour can be applied at a time, it is a time-consuming printing process. This process is suitable for bulk orders. It is best for simple designs, and gives you a consistent and smooth finish across a large number of products than other printing techniques.
Heat Transfer: It is a great way to transfer labels and logos onto the fabric with a clean and bright finish. In this process, desirable print is printed on special paper, and then transferred onto the fabric using heat. It is usually used for specific specialised fabric printing.
Block Print: The oldest way of printing— using wooden blocks with hand-carved designs. The block is first dipped into the ink and then pressed onto the fabric. This is a method especially meant for a skilled craftsman. If you are looking for a crafted, organic finish, and want to do something unique with fabrics, you can go for block print.
